![]() Form, orientation, profile, and runout tolerances provide a means for specifying the amount of allowable surface errors for part geometry. Form tolerance is the amount of allowable variation on an individual feature with respect to a perfect counterpart of that feature. Form tolerance types include straightness, flatness, circularity, and cylindricity. Orientation tolerance is an allowable variation on an individual feature with respect to a referenced datum. Orientation tolerance types include angularity, perpendicularity, and parallelism. Profile tolerances may be used to control contoured surface variations in addition to being useful for defining allowable form, orientation, location and sometimes size. Allowable variations on circular surface elements relative to a datum axis are defined with runout tolerances. Two types of runout tolerance are circular runout and total runout.
